Decent piggyback options?

Postby saboteur » Thu Mar 26, 2009 2:20 pm

I'm looking at piggyback options for a supercharged NB. What are people running out there and what can you recommend?

The following come to mind:

  • Haltech Interceptor
  • ChipTorque XEDE

Has anyone had any experiences with piggyback setups on the MX-5? Must be able to control both fuel and spark.

Cheers

Just a follow up, I ended up going with a full standalone ECU - the Adaptronic E420C.

The other piggyback contender was the Jaycar DFA, but it's unknown what the tuner support is like. All three piggybacks worked in the same way, that is by adjusting the AFM/MAF voltage to trick the OEM ECU into seeing a different airflow. The concern was what would happen once the airflow was above 100% in boosted conditions. Some US companies appear to be using the XEDE with some oversized injectors with trim across the entire range to get around this problem, but to me that seems to be a bit of a hack, and the computer would likely add more timing than optimal since it is expecting less load.

The Adaptronic seems to be working quite well after the standard aftermarket ECU teething issues (all settings related; cranking pulsewidths etc).
